JASON FOWLER

Jason grew up in Kingston, Massachusetts and was a nationally ranked amateur motocross racer by age 10. At the age of 17 he became paralyzed from the chest down after colliding with a rock while practicing on his motorcycle. With the close support of family and friends, he quickly rehabbed and six months later began competing again, this time in wheelchair racing.

“One of the more powerful lessons that I have learned that continues to guide my life is when you never give up and give 110 per cent enlightened effort, the impossible becomes possible.”

Over the next 10 years Jason competed in 30 marathons. Craving an even bigger challenge, he set his sights on an IRONMAN, which is a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride and 26.2 mile marathon – all back-to-back. He qualified for the prestigious IRONMAN World Championships in Kona, Hawaii in 2004, only to reach mile 108 out of 140 miles and get disqualified for not making the time requirement.

Failing in Hawaii in 2004 was heart-breaking for Jason, and in subsequent years he again failed at several attempts to qualify, all of which brought about many valuable life lessons. Finally, in 2008, Jason qualified and finished second. Finishing as runner-up was not sufficient for Jason: he went on to win his first World Championship title the very next year. Seven years later, at the age of 42, he won his second World Championship title.

Jason’s achievements are not confined to racing: he has a BS in Finance from Northeastern University in Boston and an MBA from Boston University with a focus on healthcare. He worked in the corporate world for 18 years in both finance and medical sales.

Jason regularly volunteers his time, giving back by teaching wheelchair racing to physically challenged children and adults. Most recently he has committed to share his craft via mindset coaching, to help others reach their potential.

“The lessons I have learned through failing and eventually winning the Ironman World Championship have translated to other parts of my life and have had made me feel a bit like superman at times,” says Jason.
